Dan Donovan

He calls himself the Geezer, and for good reason: He was on the air in the Twin Cities when most other jocks in town were still teething. In fact, the KOOL-108 (KQQL-FM) website claims that Donovan is "synonymous with 147 years" of Twin Cities radio. His name might also be associated with the sort of cornpone DJ antics that go back to the AM-radio rock 'n' roll era of the '50s and '60s. Except, of course, that it's now the 21st century, and Donovan is on FM. If his shtick is somewhat tired and dated—and it is—his Lettermanesque saving grace is that he knows it. If he blows a joke or chokes on a one-liner, so much the better—it just feeds the Geezer persona. In a radio world that features "personalities" who are either cookie-cutter or freeze-dried, the self-proclaimed "Donovan Disaster" is a perfect fit for the oldies station—a welcome mess that harks back to when rock was young and radio was fun.
