During the summer months, the stone wall running along the bluffs above Minnehaha Falls can get so crowded with kids trying to see over the three-foot-high edge you'd think some real-live Pokémon was down there. So cross the bridge and veer right a bit. From there you'll be able to see the falls up close. The park has been recently refurbished, which means plenty of benches and barbecue grills, spaced far enough apart that you don't have to picnic with the next family over. (Those who think relaxation and exercise are the same thing can take the one-mile paved trail from the falls to Fort Snelling State Park.) There's a new snack bar that serves sandwiches, beverages, and other treats. And if it rains (and it usually does), take refuge in the huge pavilion, which is equipped with hot plates, electrical outlets, sinks, picnic tables, and bathrooms so you don't have to let the weather ruin your day.
