Lake Bowl

"Best" doesn't always mean "most." No, Bryant-Lake Bowl does not offer every beer known to man or woman. But they do have a mighty liberal selection of fine, high-quality beers. The tap beers ($3.75) include a nice array of local brands (two each from Summit and James Page, plus one from Schell's, and Grain Belt Premium) as well as some of the world's finest, most venerated beers: Guinness, Newcastle, and Anchor Steam. They also offer a good selection of other bottled ales, lagers, porters, stouts, and ciders and some true oddities: Sinebrychoff Porter, from Helsinki; Aecht Schlenkeria Rauchbier Märzen, from Germany; and Coniston Bluebird Bitter. Heck, for those who are lonely for a taste of their wasted Wisconsin youth, you can order a bottle of Point Special (that'll be $2.25), direct from Stevens Point while you listen to the clatter of pins from the nearby bowling lanes. They even have three different nonalcoholic imports to choose from. At the other end of the spectrum, the more adventurous--and well-capitalized--can shell out $13.75 for 25.4 ounces of DeRanke Guldenberg, just one of many Belgian beers featured on the beer list. By our count, it would take several weeks of steady tasting to try them all--or one positively devastating night.
