BEST RESTAURANT WAY THE HECK OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (2000)

Tinucci's

Tinucci's, currently owned and operated by the third generation of the eponymous family, defies the location, location, location rule. This laid-back, old-school supper club has customers from all over the Twin Cities willing to wait more than an hour and a half to partake in Saturday night's $16.95 prime-rib buffet. Not bad for a restaurant positioned between the railroad tracks and a decidedly un-scenic stretch of the river. Tinucci's also boasts one of the biggest salad bars we've seen in years (everything from iceberg lettuce and homemade croutons to chocolate mousse and stewed prunes); skilled, friendly servers; nightly theme buffets (BBQ and Italian nights are highly recommended); and big, strong cocktails. The regular menu will make diners swear they hit a time warp somewhere down Highway 61: The fried chicken and shrimp are as delightful as they must have been a quarter-century ago, and the giant side of beef ribs evokes memories of a time when cholesterol was merely a fifteen-dollar word. Although both food and atmosphere tend toward the traditional, adventurous diners can order frogs' legs--the original "tastes like chicken" entrée!
