What do you think about Star Wars?

Mike

Mike

On the eve of the big Star Wars release, City Pages sent a reporter out to find out how ordinary people feel about the franchise. Participants were chosen at random.

Mike, 58

City Pages: What do you think about Star Wars?

Mike: I was fortunate enough to see the first movie in a theater on LSD. For the new movie, I’m extremely excited. I’m excited, but I’m not going to stand in line with a sleeping bag to see it. I’ll wait until the crowd dies down and see it at cozy, normal theater. I’m certain it’ll be better than expected.

CP: You think it’ll be better than the prequels?

Chris (right)

Mike: The prequels are just ticklers. They’re worse than ants in your pants. They’re like chicks that tickle your leg or lick your ear and that’s it.

City Pages: Do you remember where you saw Star Wars on LSD?

Mike: It was at the old Cooper Theater, which I think was in Golden Valley. I was with a bunch of Canadians. We listened to Dark Side of the Moon in the parking lot. It was a special night.

Chris, 22

City Pages: What do you think about Star Wars?

Chris: I got the box set on VHS for my fifth birthday, and have been in love with the movies ever since.

CP: Which are you looking forward to more, Star Wars or Christmas?

Chris: I see Star Wars as my Christmas present from the galaxy.

CP: Have you done any internet surveys this week to see which Star Wars character you are?

Chris: I did the Spotify survey, which is based on your listening history. Allegedly I’m Darth Vader.

City Pages: Where do you suppose the algorithms pulled Darth Vader from?

Tom

Tom

Chris: I listen to a lot of metal.

Tom, 25

City Pages: What do you think about Star Wars?

Tom: I’ve never been a fan of Star Wars, I know nothing about it. I have nothing to contribute to a conversation about this movie. I’m not going to see it.

Tony, 31

City Pages: Do you have a hot take to offer City Pages on the new Star Wars movie?

Tony

Tony

Tony: I have a theory that when Han Solo was frozen in carbonite, Lando and Leia had a love child, and that’s our guy in the new Star Wars. The good guy.

CP: Do you have any evidence that’s led you to this theory?

Tony: Proof? No absolutely not. It’s just a gut feeling.

CP: Do you know when you’re going to see the new movie.

Tony

Tony

Tony: I’m going to watch all of the originals consecutively on Blu-Ray this weekend, and then I’m going to see it.

CP: What’s your plan for avoiding spoilers on the internet before you see the movie?

Tony: That’s easy. I pretty much live in my own mind. I don’t watch a lot of TV or spend a lot of time online. I see what I want to see. This will be perfect.

CP: What’s the best case scenario for The Force Awakens?

Tony: I already know Jar Jar Binks isn’t in it which was the best case scenario.

Emily

Emily

Emily, 30

City Pages: What do you think about Star Wars?

Emily: I love it. Of course.

CP: What’s your plan for the new movie?

Emily: I’m going to take my nephews and where going to see it in 3-D. They’re 10 and six, so it’ll be perfect for them. They already love Star Wars.

Jordan

Jordan

CP: You’re doing important work. Would you delete a friend on Facebook if they posted spoilers?

Emily: Yes. Obviously I would know that they don’t care about me.

Jordan, 30

City Pages: How do you feel about Star Wars?

Jordan: I sort of feel they should have left it alone, but I’m not sure. There’s now a new generation that gets to experience these movies and the hype that come with them. It’s good for them. I’m not as pumped up about it. I’m indifferent. I’m probably going to see it anyway, but I’m not going to see it when it right when it comes out.

Kahm

Kahm

CP: Do you remember when you first saw the movies?

Jordan: I do actually. It was when the summer Olympics was going on in ’96. I watched the first trilogy back to back to back.

CP: Do you have a favorite character from the Star Wars universe?

Jordan: I’m not sure if I have a favorite character necessarily. I like the band that’s playing in the first one.

CP: The cantina band.

Lindsay

Lindsay

Jordan: Yeah. That song they’re playing is awesome. I’ll tell you my least favorite character, which was Jar Jar Binks. So stupid. And kind of an ethnic caricature.

CP: Do you think you’re going to see the new Star Wars before New Years?

Jordan: Probably not. I’ll see it eventually.

Kahm, 28

City Pages: What do you think about Star Wars?

Kahm: I’m so excited for the new Star Wars. I think it’s going to be really good. I’ve always been a huge fan.

CP: Do you remember where you were when you first saw the movies?

Kahm: Oh yeah. I was oversees where I’m from originally. My uncle sent it over, and me and all my cousins watched it on VHS. It was a really great experience.

Lindsay, 31

City Pags: I’m going to say two words. Respond and Tom will take your picture. Star Wars.
