Walker announces Choreographers' Evening lineup
Chris Yon and Taryn Griggs
Gene Pittman, Walker Art Center
For over 40 years, Choreographers' Evening has been offering a crash-course in the Minnesota dance scene. The rapid-fire performance event showcases a handful of carefully curated local dance makers, who are invited to present pieces representative of their work, be it challenging, incendiary, or innovative.
This year's installment will be curated by husband and wife team Chris Yon and Taryn Griggs. The Walker Art Center also recently announced the entire lineup for the fabulous night of dance.
Dancers set to perform include Laurie Van Weiren, the 60-something talent who has been integral to the Twin Cities dance scene since 1980, from previously curating dance at the Southern to her current gig hosting 9x22 Dance/Lab at Bryant-Lake Bowl; Otto Ramstad founder of the delightful and challenging BodyCartography Project with Olive Bieringa; and Morgan Thorson, whose 2010 collaboration with Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk of Low, Heaven, proved to be beautifully moving and intense (and won her a City Pages Best Choreographer honor that year).
