Urban Arts, a local organization whose mission is to advocate for visual, musical, and performance-based art forms, is adding another form of expression to their list: party. Sure, they've thrown celebrations in the past--good ones, too--but this weekend is special. Urban Arts is turning a year old, and they've planned one helluva blowout to mark the occasion.

The evening's theme is "Step Into Your Art." You can step into it all this Saturday night, beginning at 7 p.m. at Urban Arts' historic second floor studio space. [jump]

Throughout the evening there will be performances by members of B-Girl Be, Bryan Gerber, Esme Rodriguez, Poetry in Motion, House of John Mark, and Sole to Soul Dance Conversion. This will surely get party-goers in the mood to dance, so DJ Mix Well will spin late into the night to keep the movers moving.

Additionally, there will be laser graffiti with Ryan Foster, and a live painting exhibition by Adam Chiodo that will be auctioned off at the party. Proceeds from the painting will go toward Kulture Klub NE. And what's a party without prizes for the guests? Enter to win goodies, including a gift certificate for a tattoo from The Ink Tailor.

Prefer to keep the art on your walls instead of your skin? During festivities there will be 30 artists exhibiting nearly 300 works of art on display for sale. Beverages and hors d'oeuvres will also be served. Just be sure to pace yourselves, party people; this event is scheduled to go until 1 a.m.

Tickets for Urban Arts Presents: A Night of Art and Dance are $10 in advance online through Vital Culture or $15 at the door. The party will take place at Urban Arts' historic studio warehouse, located at 558 Vandalia Street in Saint Paul. Festivities start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, don't close down until 1 a.m.
