However, this week brings good news, as the theater company has found a new place for the production.
Gremlin Theatre is suspending its production of A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur originally scheduled for March 6-23, 2014 at the Blue House at 897 Portland Avenue in St. Paul. It came to out attention that the occupancy and legal status of the Blue House were not what we believed them to be when we rented the facility from St. Clement's Episcopal Church for this production. This came as a sudden surprise to Gremlin Theatre as well as to the Church itself and to the City of St. Paul when it was discovered Wednesday. We have spent the last several days working with the City of St. Paul and St. Clements' Church to try to resolve this, but were unable to find a solution in the time allotted for the production's originally scheduled run. This week brings better news, as a press release sent this morning states:
We were incredibly heartened by the outpouring of support from the community and the many generous offers we received from individuals and organizations to help our cause. In particular, Susan Haas of Open Eye Figure Theatre reached out to us and offered their adjacent studio apartment space as an option for our production. Upon touring the space, we were absolutely floored by this unbelievable stroke of good fortune: the fit couldn't be better. The show will go on!The show will be moving to the Phillips neighborhood theater starting this Thursday and running until March 23. Gremlin Theatre also plans to take the show to Provincetown, Massachusetts in September.
Gremlin Theatre recently went nomadic after choosing not to renew the lease on its University Avenue space. However, the theater has a tradition of hosting events in non-traditional or temporary spaces, as past shows have been held in basements and loading docks.
