With its striking architecture, must-see Spoonbridge and Cherry, and quirky events, the Walker Art Center is a Twin Cities hot spot. Its modern-art collection contains iconic pieces, while the museum also hosts a slew of esteemed touring exhibitions each year. TimeOut New York recently came up with a top-26 (who needs a nice, round number?) list of the best art museums in the U.S., and the Walker Art Center made the cut.
The museum hits the list at number 13. TimeOut cites the Sculpture Garden, performing arts program, art cinema, and its high admission rate (fun fact: The Walker is "one of the five most visited museums in the U.S.") as reasons why it was included in its roundup.
The top of the list is absolutely no surprise — MoMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney, and LACMA are all there — but further down there are some intriguing but perhaps less traveled institutions, such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, San Francisco's Asian Art Museum, and the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas.
