Three free things to do this week

This week in free things to do we have a gallery crawl, an art party, and a driveway theater production. Come take a look and plan your week.

Molly and the Magic Boot Driveway Puppet Show
(3704 45th Ave. S., Minneapolis)
Bring a lawn blanket, as Open Eye Figure Theatre will be performing this family-friendly play for all, and it's free (a donation hat will be passed along, so bring a buck or two if you have it). The piece features live actors and puppetry, and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Made Here: Represent
(Marin Restaurant and Bar, 901 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis; 612-252-7000; various locations)
Now in its sixth iteration, each season Made Here takes over empty storefronts, building sides, patches of asphalt, and other underutilized areas of downtown and turns them into art installations. This summer’s event, “Represent,” features 45 window displays examining topics like nature, social justice, and community. The new series kicks off this Thursday with an opening reception at Marin, where music will be performed by improv songwriter Jayanthi Kyle, guitar and bass jazz duo Reynold Philipsek and Matt Senjemm, soukous musician Siama Matuzungidi, and vocalist/ukulele player Dallas Johnson. Joan Vorderbruggen, who works tirelessly to help make these takeovers happen, will give walking tours at 6 and 7 p.m. 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

First Thursday in the Arts District
(Northeast Minneapolis, various locations)
For those who couldn't make it out to Art-A-Whirl, or for those who couldn't get enough, studios, galleries, and other creative spaces in northeast Minneapolis will be opening their doors to share artwork, give demonstrations, and sell their wares. Participating buildings include Artspace Jackson Flats, Casket Arts, Northrup King, Q.arma, Solar Arts, and the Thorp Building. Stop by Red Stag Supperclub or Betty Danger's Country Club for drink and food specials. More info at to 9 p.m. Thursday.
