Three free things to do this week

This week in free stuff to do we have a free meal, a free Christmas gift craft session, and a free art party. Come take a look and plan your week.

Free Breakfast at the Lowry

(The Lowry, 2112 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis; 612-341-2112)

Do you have an extra holiday mug you don't mind parting ways with? Then head over to the Lowry on Hennepin for a free, delicious breakfast for up to $11.50. That amount covers most of the menu, which includes breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, a BBQ oyster scramble, and biscuits and gravy. Choose your day wisely, as you can only score a free meal once per customer. Monday through Friday this week.

Craft Craft

(Bauhaus Brew Labs, 1315 Tyler St NE, Minneapolis; 612-276-6911)

Many may remember being a kid and making craft gifts for their parents on the final days before winter break. Craft Craft at Bauhaus Brew Labs is a little like that, but with beer. The evening, organized by the Grown-Up Club, will feature a few DIY gift-making opportunities. For those looking for a ridiculous project with lots of hilarious potential, Kristi Johnson will be leading the way, helping folks make a “Selfie on a Shelfie.” Basically, we're talking about one of those weird/creepy Elf on a Shelf dolls upped to even weirder levels, as it will have your face (or the selfie face of your choosing). Hide it in a different spot each day to freak out your kids (or drunk roommates). There will also be card-making for those who prefer their hallmark moments be Hallmark-free. Beer will be plentiful and on tap, and participants are encouraged to bring potluck treats, be it homemade cookies or hotdish, to the party. Materials for projects will be supplied. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Third Thursday: A Wintry Mix

(Minneapolis Institute of Art, 2400 S. Third Ave., Minneapolis; 612-870-3000)

This installment of Third Thursday is all about celebrating the fast approaching winter months. Tonight's party is part cocktail reception, part art celebration, part family-friendly fun, so there will be plenty to see and do, both wholesome and grownup. Cozy sweaters (or maybe one of the super ugly variety) are encouraged, as the snowflake photobooth will be open for those who would like a keepsake from the evening. Or practice your penmanship with a quill and ink, as folks will be writing letters of good tidings using old-school techniques and supplies. To warm spirits and make things bright, Agra Culture will offer a seasonal cocktail, a concoction featuring whiskey and their Spiced Almond Mylk. There will also be shopping opportunities for those still checking items off their wish-lists. Those who sign up to become Mia members (which is free) will be granted access to the ongoing "Delacroix's Influence: The Rise of Modern Art from Cézanne to van Gogh.” Live music will be provided by DENNY. 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
