Three free things to do this week

itemprop

This week in free things to do we have a movie screening in a ballpark, a dog party, and a beer celebration. Come take a look and plan your week.

AARP Movie Night at the Ballpark: Field of Dreams

(CHS Field, 360 Broadway St., St. Paul)

If you build it, they will come. At least, hopefully they will. This Wednesday, CHS Field will be screening the '80s baseball classic Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Costner. Bring a blanket (no chairs, please) if you want to watch from the field, or take a seat in the stands. Concessions will also be open for snacks during the movie. You can RSVP here. Wednesday at 7 p.m.

All-Breed Dog-Friendly Happy Hour

(The Freehouse, 701 N. Washington Ave., Minneapolis; 612-339-7011)

itemprop

[Note: This event was rescheduled from last week due to rain] Pups aren't always welcome on patios, but this Wednesday's special happy hour invites leashed dogs of all kinds. During the summer months, Sidewalk Dog organizes a series of dog-friendly happy hours at bars and restaurants around the Twin Cities in hopes of making new friends and raising funds for animal causes. This installment will help the local organization Minnesota Boxer Rescue. For your pooch, there will be gift bags and sampling. For people there will be plenty of happy-hour specials, including $4 pints and rail drinks, and $5 wine and apps. For those feeling extra fancy, a vodka-based Boxer's Punch will be on the menu during festivities as well. To RSVP, visit www.facebook.com/SidewalkDog. 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Mid-Week Beer Geek: Deschutes IRA

(Nomad World Pub, 501 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis)

Each week, beer lovers meet up at Nomad World Pub to drink unique brew offerings with the folks who make them. This installment is all about Oregon's Deschutes Brewery. They'll be tapping some Deschutes IRA (India Red Ale), a beer that offers a nice balance of malt and hops. The hops add a woodsy-fig-spice aroma and flavors, while the malt contributes caramel and toffee undertones. Try some and talk beer this Wednesday. 6 p.m.
