This week in free stuff to do we have an art party, a patio dance party, and a plus-size clothing celebration. Come take a look and plan your week.
2 on Tuesday (Nomad World Pub, 501 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis; 612-338-6424)
Nomad World Pub is offering an evening that is part dance party, part late-night happy hour. Each Tuesday, B-Rock and the Dude Trey come together to spin random hip-hop and pop ditties and other fun tunes from classics to undiscovered gems. Hang out inside or out on the patio, and enjoy two-for-ones. 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Cat's Closet (b. Resale, 2613 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis)
Cat Polivoda runs Cat's Closet, an online blog and shopping site specializing in thrifted clothing for plus-sized ladies. This Thursday, she'll be stopping in to b. Resale to do some giveaways, share fashion tips, and invite people to shop for items sized XL-4XL. Thursday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Middle Class Aspirations (Gamut Gallery, 1006 Marquette Ave., Minneapolis; 612-293-6497)
Some aim high, others just hope to get by. Self-professed blue-collar artists Wundr, Urban Camper, and Biafra, Inc. fall into the latter category. For "Middle Class Aspirations," the three will explore the highs and lows of trying to hit financial stability, from the hopelessness of setbacks to the pride of progress. Urban Camper's photography follows graffiti artists as they create pieces on trains and in alleyways. Biafra, Inc.'s work celebrates the American dream of owning a humble home with few frills. Meanwhile, Wundr creates characters with empty pockets after a day of work, men in suits lying in piles of beer bottles, and birds nurturing rotten eggs. The opening reception is this Thursday, June 11, from 6 to 10 p.m.
