The wait is over. This Monday, RuPaul's Drag Race returns for a brand-new season filled with fresh drag queens, diva-tastic guest judges (John Waters is joining the panel for an episode!), and familiar faces (Merle is back!). Each week, a few places around town will be hosting screening parties featuring drink specials, glitter, and bitchery. Who will be this cycle's villain? This cycle's insecure train wreck? Who will win a cycle's supply of makeup or the gay cruise? Tune in to find out. The show starts at 8 p.m. Monday. Watch this week at one of these spots:
The Saloon: 830 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis; 612-332-0835
The Gay 90's: 408 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis
Camp Bar: 490 N. Robert St., St. Paul
(Added bonus: At Camp Bar contestant Max Malanaphy will be in attendance to perform and watch the show with fans.)
Chef-in-Residence: Marshall Paulsen
(1750 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis; 612.375.7600)
The first Thursday of the month means free tasty eats at Gather by D'Amico. For this installment, Marshall Paulsen of Birchwood Cafe will be offering a sampling of his locally grown edibles. Be sure to wander the galleries afterward. 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
(Grumpy's Northeast, 2200 Fourth St. NE, Minneapolis; 612-789-7429)
This weekly happy hour is about the booze and the music. On Thursdays, Grumpy's Northeast hosts Vino Vinyl, an evening where DJs spin records and folks drink. We can't tell you what you're be hearing on any given night, however, as that is partly up to patrons. Meaning, they'll play whatever you bring in. So if you've been wondering what your favorite album sounds like in a busy bar instead of your family room, now is your chance to find out. Added bonus? You get a free cocktail or beer when you do. No worries for those whose music is fully converted to mp3, there are two-for-one glasses of wine for all. 6 to 10 p.m. Thursdays.
