When a gallery or museum hosts a juried group show, the judges tend to be gallery owners, art historians, and other experts. At this special event, however, guests will be encouraged to stop by and select their favorite pieces. Prizes will be given away to amateur jurors, as well as the top artists with the most votes. Sweets and chocolate will also be offered. 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, noon to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Plenary: new photographs by Jaime Carrera

(Palmer's Bar, 500 Cedar Ave. S., Minneapolis)

If low-key bars are more your scene, Palmer's is hosting an art party this Thursday as well. For "Plenary," performance artist Jaime Carrera snapped images that caught his eye during his day to day life. There will be photography from rehearsals, pet sitting, and other tasks. There are shots of animals, remote controls, and of stereo equipment, among other things. The reception will also serve as a birthday party for the artist. 7 p.m. Thursday.
