This week in free things to do we have a booze and books event, a board game night, and a beer party. Come take a look at our list.
Books and Bars (Republic, Calhoun Square, 3001 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis)
Each month, Books and Bars meets at a Twin Cities location for a pint and a talk on books. This Tuesday, host Jeff Kamin will be talking about Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler. The story follows a group of childhood friends who reconnect when they return to their hometown of Little Wing for a wedding. Tuesday, 7 p.m.
Mid-Week Beer Geek (Nomad World Pub, 501 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis)
This Wednesday, Minnesota Beer Activists are bringing an especially unusual pint to the Nomad Beer Geek happening: Surly Witch's Tower. The beer is named after Prospect Park's iconic water tower, also known at Witch's Hat Tower. So what makes this beer unique? It contains toasted green cardamom pods and toasted ash wood, which Surly says gives the drink a spicy mint-chocolate flavor. Try one for yourself, and stay for beer trivia. At 9 p.m. metal DJs Into the Void play a set. Wednesday, 6 p.m.
Game Night (Light Grey Art Lab, 118 E. 26th St., Minneapolis)
Light Grey Art Lab isn't just a gallery space, it also hosts a weekly evening where folks are encouraged to stop by and play games, gaming-store style. This week's installment is all about adventure. Suggestions include Silver Twilight Lodge (card game), or board games like Elder's Sign and Forbidden Island. All games are welcome, so use the theme as a jumping off point. Thursday, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
