Of all of the haunted houses around town, the Soap Factory's Haunted Basement is probably the most notorious. Each year, the gallery curates a freaky scene where guests are given a safe word, sign a waiver before descending the stairs, and must be 18 or over to enter.

This fall will see the return of Haunted Basement director Noel Bremer for his second year with the project. The creepy soundscapes, olfactory unpleasantness (created by St. Croix Sensory), and unusual characters will also be back.

There will be two new things coming to the experience, however. For those looking for an even more intense experience, Test Subject tickets will be available in a limited quantity. Folks who take this option will be invited to explore the horrors of the basement completely alone (well, except for the evil spirits, that is).

Those who take the tour on Fridays and Saturdays will be able to enjoy a drink afterward at the Spooky Speakeasy, where they can calm their nerves over craft cocktails, eerie tunes, and kooky ambiance (folks who don't take the tour can also join in on the fun).

Tickets for the Haunted Basement, now in its seventh year, go on sale on August 1, and cost $25-$27. The event runs October 3 to November 3. For more info, visit
