The Heights presents 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' tonight
The Heights Theatre in Columbia Heights is, without a doubt, one of the most glamorous movie theaters in Minnesota. And though they regularly show first-run movies at this antique single-screen theater, it's often more exciting to catch one of their second-run films.
Tonight will be exceptionally exciting thanks to a showing of the 1953 classic Gentlemen Prefer Blondes starring Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. From the theater's webpage: "Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell are at their zenith in this truly exceptional musical comedy camp fest. Directed by Howard Hawks at a lightning pace, and featuring the classic 'Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend' musical number, this film is a classic of its genre."
Monroe's platinum locks will shine in all their Technicolor glory in a new, digitally restored 35mm print of the film. But there are other treats planned for the evening as well, including a clip from a "rare and super fun production number from the 1954 Howard Hughes and Jane Russell camp-fest, The French Line." Arrive early to hear Harvey Gustafson at the Heights' Mighty Wurlitzer, and stay for the platinum cherry on top--Marilyn Monroe impersonator Jennie Gorbunow will perform in person.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and all tickets are $8. Advance tickets are available on the Heights Theatre webpage.
