Summer pieces every Minneapolis gal needs

itemprop

Now that summer weather has decided to grace us with its presence, it’s time to pack away your sweaters and bring summery clothes out to play. This is a time-honored tradition here in the Twin Cities. We’re finally assured that there won’t be any more rogue flakes falling from the sky or freak blizzards. Now we’re in for three months of wild thunderstorms, blazing heat, and hardcore humidity. But hey, we love it.

A new season is basically the perfect excuse to revamp your wardrobe. You’ve probably got a good stack of cutoff shorts, Hidden Beach-worthy swimsuits, and sunglasses, so what else do you need to add? Here’s where to start.

Clogs

It’s time to let go of all preconceived clog notions and give in to their slightly hippie-dippie, slightly Nordic allure. You get a little bit of flattering height, a cute silhouette that works with dresses and shorts, and the comfort of those old-school Dr. Scholl's our moms wore. (True story: I lasted all day at Honkytonk Fest last year in my clogs.) We’ve even got a clog outlet (Sven Factory Outlet Store, FYI), which is only about 45 minutes away. Cliché also knows what’s up; the shop is bringing clogs to Minneapolis girls.

A picnic sundress

Now that we have a bonafide deli in Uptown (Lowry Hill Meats), you can grab a few of their delicious sandwiches and go on a picnic in Loring Park. (You can always stop by Lunds or Kowalski's, too.) A picturesque picnic needs a picturesque sundress, preferably in a print. The off-the-shoulder look is big for summer, so this Proper & Prim maxidress fits the bill. If your picnic runs into the night – hey, it happens! – your legs won’t get all goose-bumpy after the sun goes down.

A weekender bag

So you’re going to your new boyfriend/girlfriend’s cabin for the weekend? You better not pack your giant busted suitcase. (What would their mom think?) Bring a large weekender instead and stuff your swimsuit into something more stylish than a Samsonite. Wilson & Willy’s is the best place to grab one, and while you’re there you can pick up a gift or two for your welcoming hosts.

The perfect tee

Trust us on this one: Nation Ltd.’s basic tees are the best. You can throw them on over anything and they always look great. Your old tees probably look nasty, discolored, and ratty by now, so grab a few fresh ones. As a wise person once said, “With good basics, you’ll have endless options.”

Something vintage

Hey, it’s eco-friendly and no one else at the BBQ will be wearing the same thing. Celebrate at Golden Pearl Vintage on Thursday night with champagne, shopping, and mingling with the well-dressed and knowledgeable employees. Maybe you’ve got an untapped passion for '60s floral prints. The Golden Pearl crew will help you find the best of the best. (Golden Pearl Vintage, 507 E. Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis. 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday.)
