Well, we’re balls deep in the shopping season right now — not that there’s anything wrong with that! This week, while you're checking items off your list, remember that the sales associates at your favorite stores are probably tired, overworked, and in need of a smile or a kind word or two. Working retail during the holiday season is a pretty thankless job, so be nice.
There are more than a few standout events this week, so hopefully you’re ready to shop.
Mona Williams’ Most Luxurious Pop-In Ever
Designer resale boutique Mona Williams, which relocated from Northeast to the Mall of America this year, is hosting a very glam “pop-in” shop at the Eden Prairie Center. You have to pay $20 for admission, but all ticket sales go right to Hope Chest for Breast Cancer, so it’s totally worth it. Also worth it? Owner Patric Richardson’s collection of gorge designer vintage from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Prada, and more. Local jewelry designer Stephanie Lake will be there too, selling her extravagant, dramatic jewels. If you’ve got a fancy lady on your list (or if you are one yourself), then this is your shopping event, dude. (Wednesday, December 7 through Monday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. Eden Prairie Center, 8251 Flying Cloud Dr., Eden Prairie. Tickets available at eventbrite.com.)
Ashley Mary Art Opening
Chances are you’re already shopping at Uptown boutique Cliché for your holiday party looks or gifts for your besties, so stop in on Thursday to sip, shop, and peruse new work by painter Ashley Mary, whose abstract, colorful pieces are going up in the shop. All art is available to purchase, and the store is offering 20-percent off their merchandise on Thursday night. Wins all around! (Thursday, December 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cliché, 2403 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.)
Still Kickin Pop-Up at Bauhaus
When you buy a graphic tee, a pair of socks, or a coffee mug emblazoned with the Still Kickin logo, you’re helping another human out. Proceeds from their merch go toward assisting the nonprofit’s monthly “hero,” so when you snuggle into one of their very cozy sweatshirts, you’ll feel even better knowing that your purchase is making a real difference in someone’s life. See their new holiday merch at a pop-up event at Bauhaus Brew Labs. (Thursday, December 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. 1315 Tyler St. NE, Minneapolis.)
Winsome Goods Holiday Pop-Up
Local designer Kathryn Sieve’s line Winsome Goods is getting its own retail and studio space, and to celebrate, they’re throwing a holiday pop-up party with friends NEAL Jewelry, Lulu Organics, artist Kate Worum, and Dust & Form Ceramics, among others. This is where you’ll find perfect gifts for the “cool girls” on your list, for sure. (Saturday, December 10 through Sunday, December 11. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sixth St. SE, Minneapolis.)
Casket Arts Holiday Market
Do you love northeast Minneapolis? Give the Northeast fans on your shopping list a gift of art from their very own neighborhood this year with a little help from Casket Arts’ second-annual Holiday Market. You’ll find prints, jewels, sculptures, and more from 40-plus Northeast-based artists. The event is also taking donations for the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train, which helps stock food shelves in the area with healthy, non-perishable items. (Saturday, December 10. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 681 Sevent Ave. NE, Minneapolis.)
