For almost two decades, the Women of Substance series at St. Catherine's University has showcased the work and ideas of women making an impact in the world, be it through travel, creative output, or scientific research. This spring, the series will be adding a bit more substance to the schedule, as the program is expanding to a nine-day festival.
So far, the online schedule boasts 16 special happenings taking place from April 15-24. Highlights include a lecture with female explorers Ann Bancroft, Liv Arnesen, and the Access Water International Team; and the O'Shaughnessy will be hosting two musical performances, one from Grammy Award-winning vocalist Angelique Kidjo and another from Meredith Monk and her Vocal Ensemble.
Other happenings include a mini-theater series, a few book-release parties, a potluck, and a handful of gallery receptions. Many events are free, with quite a few costing only $3-$5 to attend.
