Soo Visual Arts Center benefit: We heart art next week
Though they have gallery shows and events planned through the rest of the year, the SooVAC might have to close its doors early if it doesn't come up with some quick cash. A non-profit arts organization, the gallery space relies on grants, art purchases, and donations to stay afloat. Unfortunately, shrinking grants have thrown the space off budget and the gallery must raise $35,000 by September 20. In addition to membership drives, Honey and l'etoile magazine have stepped in to help boost funds.
The We Heart Art benefit will be held in two parts at Honey in Northeast Minneapolis on Wednesday, September 15. The first half runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and serves as an excellent cheap date night for two. For a mere $39, you and your sweetheart will be treated to a four-course dinner featuring a champagne strawberry salad (mixed greens with fruit, chevre, and champagne vinaigrette), Caprese salad (fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil), steak frites (steak with truffle-salted French fries), two glasses of wine or two pints of beer, and dark chocolate with sea salt.
After the meal, the party begins with dancing from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. DJ scheduled to play sets include Brad Senne, Byzantine Beatbox, and Deus Ex Machina. Can't afford dinner? You can support the Soo and enjoy some tunes by showing up at the after party for only $5.
Honey is located at 205 East Hennepin Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis. Walk-ins are welcome during the benefit dinner, but reservations are recommended. Call 612.746.0306 to RSVP. The dance party is 21+.
