Solar Arts building hosts a holiday open house

Shopping this time of year can be a big pain in the you know what. From the long lines, to the crabby people, to the endless elevator holiday music... it's just the worse. Well, the folks over at Solar Arts Building, the newest addition to the northeast Minneapolis art scene, are offering an alternative to your holiday shopping woes by hosting an event that lets you look for artistic gifts for your friends and family while enjoying some music, food, and a beverage or two.
Caitlin Karolczak's studio in Solar Arts
Caitlin Karolczak, known for her Flemish-style paintings of macabre subjects drawn from vintage archival materials, moved into the building in July from her previous studio at the Bottling House. She loves the space, and says it's great to have so many artists in the building. "It's a little more of a community here," she says. "The building is always stirring."

Another piece depicts a woman in a wedding dress with a man in a landscape, and there's a banner in the middle with an eye on it. She also has a holiday series, which isn't so much holiday-themed, but it is a little less dark than her usual fare. She has painted over antique bird lithographs from the late 19th century. Karolczak will also be brewing spiked hot cider in her studio.
