Sixteen Candles showing at AMC on Valentine's Day

"Would you stop feeling sorry for yourself? It's bad for your complexion."

"Would you stop feeling sorry for yourself? It's bad for your complexion."

While it might not be popular opinion when considered against The Breakfast Club, John Hughes' Sixteen Candles was arguably the best film he ever made in his long and artful career of making teenage coming-of-age movies not lame. The dialogue, music and one-liners alone (not to mention Jake f'ing Ryan) make it a serious contender in the canon of teen flicks prior or since.

And guess what? You and your date/sweetheart/jaded single friend can delight in Samantha Baker's hilarious misfortune on the big screen on Valentine's Day and Eve.

Showing the teen angst epic on such a wack holiday is more than welcome option for those looking to do dinner and a movie but with an '80s twist. And the flick will easily remind single women why they broke up with their last jerkface boyfriend anyway: He wasn't no Jake Ryan, was he ladies?

We all deserve to make out cross-legged on a table over a candlelit dessert at least once.

The movie is showing at 7 p.m. at both Rosedale and Southdale AMC Theaters.
