With Tatters, Buffalo Exchange, and a few other clothing stores in the area, the Lyn-Lake neighborhood is already a decent place to shop for threads that won't break your wallet. This week, it will be getting even more affordable chic, as out-of-state boutique Proper & Prim is coming to town, opening this Thursday.
"We opened about four years ago in Fargo, and we grew a really big following from there," says Ashlie O'Day, who owns and curates the two shops along with her sister, Teresa. "I've been living here since 2007. So once we saw a spot open up, we jumped on it, and decided it would be the perfect time to open up something here in the Twin Cities."
The store is located at 2743 Lyndale Ave. S., in the same building as World Street Kitchen. Inventory will focus on affordable and fashionable items, including accessories, shoes, dresses, and more -- all under $100.
"I would say the concept of the store is that we want really on-trend, modern, young pieces," says O'Day. "But we also want everything to be relatively affordable. You won't really find anything over $100. You can put a whole outfit for together for less than $75."
The fashion-forward, affordable, and quickly moving inventory business model has proven to be a hit in the Twin Cities, as stores like Cliche and Primp continue to thrive.
"I think we're a good compliment to Primp and Cliche," says O'Day. " We have quickly moving products, while being trendy and affordable. But we do have a different taste, so you'll find different things here."
The boutique is set to open this Thursday, May 29. A grand opening party will be scheduled in mid-June. Store hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays (closed Mondays). You can follow the latest news about the store via its Facebook page and website.
