Local playwright Carson Kreitzer has earned a National Endowment for the Arts grant to aid in developing her latest play, Behind the Eye.
The New Play Development grant is through the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, where it will be produced next April. Carson is to receive $10,000 while the theater will net $80,000 for the production.
[jump] Kreitzer, a core artist at the Playwrights' Center and a member of the Workhaus Collective, has earned numerous plaudits for past work, including the multiple award-winning The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer and Self Defense or Death of Some Salesmen.
Her latest work explores the life of Lee Miller, a model-turned-photographer who in addition to working in fashion and fine art, also spent time as a war correspondent during World War II.
Kreitzer will workshop the play at the Center in February, including a staged reading.
A past winner of funds through the program, Aditi Kapil will workshop her prize-winning piece Agnes Under the Big Top this month before its premiere production at the Mixed Blood Theatre in February.
