One of the Twin Cities most eminent theaters will get some national TV exposure next week when Penumbra Theatre will be featured on Rock Center with Brian Williams. During the program, Penumbra founder and artistic director Lou Bellamy will be profiled.
Penumbra caught the attention of NBC in June, when I Wish You Love, Penumbra's look at Nat King Cole's groundbreaking 1950s television show, played to sold-out audiences at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. The segment will be hosted by Hoda Kotb (from the Today show) who conducted several interviews with Bellamy for the piece, including at his home.
The segment comes at an interesting time for Penumbra, which recently canceled two of the three remaining shows in its 2011-2012 season as a cost-cutting move. Rock Center's ratings are spectacular -- it has averaged less than four-million viewers over its short run -- and should expose Penumbra and its important theatrical mission to a whole new audience.
Bellamy's segment will be broadcast during the 9 p.m. hour Monday on KARE-11.
