Comedy Central has announced its lineup of upcoming shows and specials. On the list was a project starring Minneapolis-born Nick Swardson, someone who should be familiar to fans of the comedy station.
The project, dubbed Typical Rick, is a five-episode digital series set in Los Angeles. When Gary (Swardson) moves from the Midwest to make it big, his best friend Rick (Simon Rex) comes with him, and proceeds to ruin every situation the two come across.
That sounds like it could get redundant, but web series often allow for more room to play and to be weird, so hopefully the tone and storylines work out. There's no word yet on when the production will begin streaming.
This isn't Swardson's first project with Comedy Central; a few years ago his sketch comedy show, Nick Swardson's Pretend Time, aired on the station for a season. The formerly local standup is probably best known for playing Terry Bernadino, the rollerskating prostitute on Reno 911!
Swardson is currently set to tour with his buddy Adam Sandler, David Spade, and Rob Schneider on the Netflix Do Over tour. Unfortunately, there are no scheduled stops for Minnesota.
