Warren Bowles is in serious condition after suffering a cardiac arrest Friday evening during the opening-night performance of Neighbors at Mixed Blood Theatre.

Bowles was reportedly onstage during a solo scene at the end of the show when he suffered the attack. After being worked on at the theater by EMTs he was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center. While still in intensive care, Bowles is conscious and conversant, and is expected to undergo a number of heart-related tests.

Weekend performances of Neighbors, the opening of Mixed Blood's new season and the first of its Radical Hospitality model, were canceled. The show resumes Wednesday with Shawn Hamilton is Bowles's role. Hamilton is a longtime veteran of local theaters, having performed at Penumbra, the Jungle, the Guthrie, Ten Thousand Things, and Mixed Blood (last seen in this spring's Avenue Q), among many other productions.

A Caring Bridge site has been set up so that people can send well wishes to Bowles and his family.
