When you've got a million things on your to-do list for this Thanksgiving, getting a little physical activity in can get pushed to the back burner. When you finally remember that you missed the Turkey Trot registration or you "forgot" to sign up, it can be too late to participate.
This year, we've gathered some Twin Cities walks and runs you can still register for on Thanksgiving while giving back to the community.
The Turkey Day Run starts near the downtown Life Time Fitness Target Center and weaves through downtown toward the Mississippi River with sights along the way like City Hall, the Guthrie, and Gold Medal Park. Proceeds from the Turkey Day Run help benefit Second Harvest Heartland.
Where: Registration on level 5 of the Target Center, race starts near Target Center When: November 27, race-day registration from 6 a.m. - 7:30 a.m., race waves start at 8 a.m. Registration Fee: $49 for Adult 5K runners, $45 for Lifetime Members, $25 for Youth 5K (17 years and under)
Make a loop around the Mall of America during this 5K fun walk. Families and easy-going walkers can start their Thanksgiving adventure on the first floor with plenty of activities throughout the route while speedy calorie burners should stick to the second-floor route. Proceeds from the Walk to End Hunger benefit your choice of more than a dozen different local organizations, and the $25 registration fee goes directly toward providing the organizations with 75 meals.
