When KMOJ morning show host Shed G. relocated from Atlanta to the Twin Cities, he saw a tremendous opportunity.
"There are so many great up-and-coming urban comedians out there who just need some exposure here in Minnesota," he says.
In addition to working toward pursuing his own career as a comedian, this week Shed G. will take the next step in his vision of bringing the best urban comedians to Minnesota with the introduction of the KMOJ Comedy Series at House of Comedy.
The ongoing series will take place on the third Wednesday of each month, with a lineup of talent personally selected by Shed G.
"I really want to bring in comedians who I've had the opportunity work with on a regular basis for the past 12 years," he says. He'll also serve as emcee for the monthly event. "We're going to have national headliners along with guest sets from local comedians. It's great, because it's going to give the comedians more exposure, but also give the audience the chance to see the next great names in comedy."
Shed G. isn't new to the Minnesota comedy scene, having moved to the Twin Cities for the position of KMOJ morning show host three years ago. In addition to being an on-air personality, Shed has been a fixture in comedy clubs throughout the state, and recently hosted an ongoing comedy showcase at Comedy Corner Underground.
"I love the Minnesota comedy scene, because it's so different than anything I was used to [before moving to Minnesota]," he says. "I'm a fan of comedy, and there are so many different types of comedians here. Gus Lynch was one of my favorites. I loved that guy. I just like watching comedians perform and seeing new styles of comedy onstage."
For the inaugural show, heavy hitters Donnell Rawlings, best known as a regular on Chappelle's Show, and Tyler Craig, who has been seen on BET and Comedy Central, will serve as headliners. In addition, local standouts Adrian Washington and Pierre Douglas will be featured, giving the crowd a mix of recognizable star power along with strong homegrown talent.
Shed G. is already in the process of finalizing performers for future events at House of Comedy, and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
"I have to tip my hat to the House of Comedy for letting me try something unique and different," he says. "I'm truly blessed that they've given me this opportunity, and I'm looking forward to giving these comedians the chance to be seen by our Minnesota audience."
