Kevin Kling and other notables read for Club Book

Explained as a "book club rewritten," Club Book promotes Minnesota arts and culture to a wider audience by connecting local libraries and best-selling, award-winning writers. Since its start in April, Club Book has brought such well-known authors as Garrison Keillor, Tim O' Brien, and Kate DiCamillo to libraries within the seven-county metro area. On August 26, Maplewood Library will be host to local favorite Kevin Kling.

Kling, a local playwright, actor, and author will read from his first book The Dog Says How, a compilation of short stories that share his childhood memories of school and family, as well as more recent events, including when he was hit by a motorcycle. He recounts the tragic moments that resulted from that accident thoughtfully, but his sense of humor can't be stifled. The story about how he and his favorite dog adjust to life with an arm disability is enough to keep readers piqued for more from Kling. He will also be reading selections from his most recent book, the national best-seller Holiday Inn. Once again, he shares his stories in true Kling fashion, focusing on a year of holidays.

Club Book cracks open its fall season with other well-known writers. Terry McMillan, author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale. He will be appearing at Brookdale Library on September 18. Roseville Library will host Pulitzer Prize finalist Colson Whitehead on September 14. Faith Sullivan, author of The Cape Ann, will be appearing at Ridgedale Library on October 12. Alison McGhee, #1 New York Times best-selling author, will be at Prior Lake Library October 19. Mike Reiss, former head writer and producer for The Simpsons will be at Chanhassen High School on October 22.

All events are free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first served. Doors open 45 minutes in advance of programs and books will be available for sale. See Club Book for a list of authors' appearances.
