'Just Add Ink' comic cookbook release party this Friday

itemprop
So what if for 12 days out of the year Minnesotans become connoisseurs of food on a stick? The Twin Cities are still great grazing grounds for foodies, and people come from around the world to get a piece of the action. Even the local comic-book scene has an angle on the topic of food. Heck, one of the biggest local comic events of the year is named Lutefisk Sushi. The same folks who organize the creation of that bento box of comics have come up with something more: a cookbook. Just Add Ink: A Comic Cookbook goes on sale this Friday. In celebration of its publication, there will be an opening reception hosted by Altered Esthetics, Big Time Attic, and Cartoonist Conspiracy -- the folks who organized the details of the cookbook -- which included looking through submissions by local and international artists. Not only will there be recipes for food; but the original comics that fill the spiral-bound pages will be on any subject that can be written in recipe form. The release of this anthology of comic-strip recipes and cooking tips will be accompanied by a gallery show featuring the original artwork.

The "Just Add Ink" art exhibit will be on display through August 25 at Altered Esthetics. Meet the artists and have your copy of the cookbook signed during the opening reception this Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. There will also be an artists' discussion panel on 1 p.m. Saturday, August 20.
