Early last year, downtown tapas eatery Solera closed its doors for good, leaving some prime real estate available. Now the vacant space will soon be occupied, as Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that it will be purchasing the building.
The acquisition is all part of HTT's plan to turn the West Side of downtown Minneapolis, which they have dubbed "WeDo," into even more of an entertainment destination. "When the Solera building became available, we acted quickly to acquire it so we could further our mission to unite and inspire our community through arts and culture,” says HTT CEO/president Tom Hoch via press release this afternoon.
At least part of the location is set to become offices, but other possibilities are also being taken into consideration. The group is working with a $3.3 million budget, with $2.8 of that coming from a loan from the city, $250,000 from a grant, and $250,000 up front in cash from the organization.
The building, located at 900 and 906 Hennepin Avenue, is neighbors with another Hennepin Theatre Trust space, Orpheum Theatre. The group plans to move into the space mid-2017, with fundraising and other planning beginning this September.
