This week in free things to do we have a water-based happy hour, a beer happy hour, and a few glam runway happenings. Come take a look and plan your cheap week.
Neighborhood Night at Water Bar
(Water Bar & Public Studio, 2516 Central Ave. NE, Minneapolis; 612-839-0810)
The Water Bar isn't quite 100 percent open yet, but at this chill party all are welcome to meet the folks behind the project. Check out the new space, chat with local politicians and council members, sample and learn about the water in the area, and drink some local brew. 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
My Sister Celebration
(Primp West End, 1628 West End Blvd., Minneapolis; 952-303-3791)
The members of group My Sister design pretty shirts, hats, temporary tattoos, lip gloss, and more to raise awareness and benefit organizations that fight sex trafficking. Their lovely wares are coming to Primp West End, and to celebrate the store will be throwing a party this week. See fashion on live mannequins, do a little shopping, and enjoy Mexican-style cocktails in honor of Cinco de Mayo. There will also be a raffle and other prizes. RSVP is requested, simply confirm your interest on the event's Facebook page.
5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Soul Assemblage Runway Show
(Minneapolis Community and Technical College, 1501 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis; 612-659-6000)
Who will be the next big designers on the Twin Cities scene? This evening's event showcases emerging creatives from MCTC's apparel technologies program. Check out the work of 11 artists at this free happening on campus at the T building's plaza. 7 p.m. Thursday.
Symphony and Suds
(Surly Brewing Company, 520 Malcolm Ave. SE, Minneapolis)
Feel extra sophisticated at this fun happy hour that combines pints with live music from the Minnesota Orchestra. Last installation was at Sociable Cider Werks, and later this month the group will be coming to Insight Brewing. 7 p.m. Thursday.
