This week in free stuff to do includes a party featuring fermented food, an art show in a bar, a downtown art party, and an outdoor movie. Come take a look and plan your week.
Traveling Patio Picture Show (Grumpy's, 2200 4th St. NE, Minneapolis)
Trylon microcinema, Trash Film Debauchery, and Indeed Brewing Company have teamed up to screen awesomely shitty movies at outdoor patios throughout the Twin Cities. Screenings are surprises (unless you check the event's Facebook page), but will usually include a mix of documentaries and craptacular flicks. This week's installment is at Grumpy's NE, check here for a complete schedule of dates and locations. 9 p.m. Tuesday.
School of Fish and other Narratives (Icehouse, 2528 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis)
Gallery shows in bars have the potential to be extra fun. This exhibit at Icehouse features the latest work of Kate Van Cleve. Here she'll be showing paintings and collages both big and small, filled with colorful characters and little details to inspect. Erik Koskinen and JT Bates will provide music for the evening. 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Intersections: Made Here Opening Party (Marin Bar and Restaurant, 901 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis)
With a new season comes a fresh iteration of Made Here, an epic, ongoing art project that showcases local artists in empty storefront spaces in downtown Minneapolis. This installment features 30 works by 58 artists. To celebrate, there will be a party this Wednesday at Marin Bar and Restaurant. Show up at either 7 or 8 p.m. for a guided walking tour, where there will be yarn bombing, group pieces, and artistic signage to check out. Along the route, buskers will be entertaining crowds. Performances include Hot Lava, Dreamland Faces, and Elizabeth Barta. 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Pop Up Art Storefronts (38th & Chicago, Minneapolis)
This weekly party is hosted by the 38th and Chicago Business Association. From 6 to 8 p.m., the Powderhorn Kitchen will host an event titled Fermentation 101. Learn a little about the art, do some snacking, and try it out at home later. From 8 to 10 p.m., David Pisa's Clever Treasure Puzzle Party invites guests to solve a variety of puzzles and games. Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.
