As part of Women's History Month celebrations on campus, Macalester College will be hosting Janet Mock, a writer and transgender rights activist. She'll be discussing her experience as an author, as well her journey as a transgender women, as penned in her recently released memoir, Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More.7 p.m. Tuesday.

Artist Matthias Merkel Hess works in ceramics to meticulously recreate plastic and tin gas and water cans from past decades. You can also wander the halls to check out works from the hotel's permanent collection, and order up a fun cocktail from the bar. 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

First Thursdays in the Arts District
See what artists in northeast Minneapolis have been up to at this monthly gallery hop. Spaces include folks in the California Building, Q.uarma, Casket Arts, and others. During this time, artists open up their studio spaces, special events are hosted in common areas, and nearby bars and restaurants have happy hours.
