You know it’s summer in the Twin Cities when every weekend is packed with events. From Memorial Day on, there’s nary a weekend where there isn't a neighborhood block party or a street fair where you find yourself blocked off of your favorite roadway. Hey, at least there’s cheese curds, right?
Since you’ll be out and about, weather permitting, you might as well peruse all the great shopping events that pop up alongside these summertime standbys. Here are a few happening this weekend.
June/Belle Weather Open Streets Sidewalk Sale
(34th and Lyndale Avenue, Minneapolis)
If you’re planning to attend Lyndale Avenue’s Open Streets, definitely stop by the June and Belle Weather's sidewalk sale. The neighboring stores plan to sell massive amounts of clothes, shoes, handbags, and even store display pieces at low, low prices. You can definitely find designer gems from June (we scored a five-dollar Moschino cardigan a few years ago). Neighborhood restaurants like Café Ena are serving Mexican street food, too, so if you’ve got $20, you are golden. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5.
Tandem Vintage’s Pretty Together Pop-Up Sale
(Quixotic Coffee, 769 Cleveland Ave. S., St. Paul)
If you shop for home goods at Northeast’s Find Furnish, you’ve probably admired the curated, fun vintage pieces by Tandem Vintage. They’re popping up for Grand Old Day in St. Paul at Quixotic Coffee alongside LALUNETTE Jewelry. Most of the merchandise was collected specifically for this pop-up, so there will be fresh summer pieces that you haven’t perused on the Find Furnish racks. Owner Amanda Baumann has even collected vintage swimsuits that don’t suck; they’re super cute and flattering, and perfect for the '80s and '90s one-piece resurrection. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Grand Old Day Bridal Sample Sale
(The Wedding Shoppe, 1196 Grand Ave., St. Paul; 651-298-1144)
The Wedding Shoppe’s Grand Old Day bridal sample sale is basically the stuff of legend. The event runs through the entire month of June, and sample bridal gowns are available for up to 80 percent off. Some of them start as low as $99, so if you’re tying the knot in the near future, make an appointment with them so you, too, can say yes to the dress. Just do it before you start your Grand Old Day beer drinking.
Golden Rule Turns 1
(350 Water St., Excelsior; 612-598-2098)
Excelsior’s super-cool boutique Golden Rule celebrates its first birthday with a weekend of events, including pop-ups by local designers like Winsome and A Mano, installations from local artists, and a lululemon trunk show. (Yes, that does seem a little weird, but hey, those leggings really are worth the money.) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
