Art-A-Whirl is here again, which means one thing: parties. The three-day northeast Minneapolis event is a celebration of art, creativity, and local music. While we obviously urge you to buy some art and support local creatives and their work, you may also want to stop by some of your favorite boutiques and party with them before grabbing a pint and checking out music and more 331 or Grumpy’s NE. There are a few anniversary parties and grand opening festivities happening this weekend, so support Twin Cities retailers both new and beloved to keep them around.
Covered turns 10, gives away $10,000 in prizes
(Covered, 1201 Lagoon Ave., Minneapolis)
We’ve mentioned before that Uptown boutique Covered is celebrating its 10-year anniversary, but this weekend they’re taking the celebration to the next level with crazy giveaways from some of their favorite brands. Obviously a party of this magnitude deserves mention! Stop by the store anytime from Thursday evening through Sunday to shop, sip, and congratulate the Covered Girls on a decade of keeping us all looking hot. The more you spend, the higher the value of prizes you’ll get to choose from in an exclusive “gifting suite.” Some of the highlights include four pairs of Hudson jeans, flannel shirts from must-have brand Rails, leather zip wallets from Botkier, and a cashmere blanket from 360 Cashmere.
Hazel & Rose opening party
(Hazel & Rose, 945 Broadway St. NE, Minneapolis)
If you’ll be in Northeast during Art-A-Whirl, why not do a little shopping? Hazel & Rose is devoted to ethical, sustainable, and well-made design, from flowy silk dresses to cool white leather sneakers by French brand Veja. Every piece owner Emma Olson chooses to stock in her shop has an eco-friendly bent, but it’s no crunchy hippie store. Hazel & Rose’s pieces are modern, minimal and versatile. The shop’s grand opening party takes place on Saturday with 15-percent off store-wide, bubbles, and … wait for it … cotton candy! If you've purchased any Art-A-Whirl pieces, show off your “I Bought Art” sticker and they'll take another 10-percent off your purchase.
Parc turns 8
(Parc, 320 E. Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis)
Northeast boutique Parc is another Minneapolis boutique that has seen great success in recent years, even adding an Edina location to give shoppers more options across the metro. Their airy, minimal styles — which include brands like LA Made and Minneapolis’ own Hackwith Design — are always cool and high-quality and never overly trendy. Parc will be celebrating its eighth birthday on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with an exclusive discount, refreshments, and a gift with purchases over $250.
... and so does Flirt
(Flirt, 177 N. Snelling Ave., St. Paul)
Though lingerie boutique Flirt quietly closed their North Loop location not too long ago, their original St. Paul spot is going strong. Flirt’s eighth anniversary party takes place on Saturday, with 25 percent off the entire store and the ever-present bubbly. They’re also offering swag bags to the first 20 purchasers, and free Flirt tees with a $75 or more purchase.
