An Evil Dead remake: It's happening, so get over it. Ghost House Pictures recently announced that Diablo Cody is on board to add a little punch and dark humor to director Fede Alvarez's script. Sounds like a pretty good match, no?
And while fans may be unsure as to whether or not they want a reboot of the ultra-gory series, original producers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell (who also starred in the flicks) are moving forward with the project whether you like it or not.
[jump] The producing trio state:
We are committed to making this movie and are inspired by the enduring popularity and enthusiasm for the Evil Dead series. We can't wait to scare a new generation of moviegoers using filmmaking techniques that were not available to us thirty years ago as well as Fede bringing a fresh eye to the film's original elements.
Uh-oh. Sounds a little like the reasoning George Lucas gave for tinkering with Star Wars. But let's reserve judgement until the trailer comes out.
This isn't Cody's first foray into horror; the author also penned Jennifer's Body, which had a script that audiences either loved or loved to hate (this writer thought it was fun).
Regardless of whether or not fans are excited about the news, Cody seems enthusiastic to be working on the project:
Although it was recently announced that the Cody-penned and -produced United States of Tara has been canceled, the writer has certainly kept busy. She is also currently working on the script for a Sweet Valley High movie (at least, last we heard...what the ETA on that?), is filming a new segment for her Red Band Trailer series, is making her directorial debut with the Christmas flick Lamb of God, and will be releasing Young Adult, starring Charlize Theron, this year.
