It's always upsetting when a piece of art is eradicated; it's even harder when its existence was brief. This Saturday, Deuce Seven's newly-commissioned mural at Cult Status Gallery will be painted over. The new color will be beige.
Though permission was granted by the building owners before the mural was commissioned, complaints where later made that the location's new look made people "uncomfortable." Most tenants were onboard with the art, but after a meeting it was decided that the mural would be painted over as soon as possible.
The exterior artwork, by local graffiti artist Deuce Seven, who has been showcased in several galleries around town, including the Soo Visual Arts Center, will be painted over this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests are invited to watch the repainting though the tone will be somber.
Cult Status Gallery is located at 2913 Harriet Avenue South in Uptown Minneapolis. They have been keeping fans up to date on the situation throughout the drama, which even included a threatening voicemail. You can read up on the battle at the gallery's Facebook, located here.
