Dances at the Lakes Festival features hundreds of performers

This coming weekend, the Rose Garden at Lake Harriet will be aflutter with more than just colorful flowers. Over 100 dancers will be descending on the gardens en masse, displaying a variety of dances for the 10th-annual Dances at the Lakes Festival presented by the Christopher Watson Dance Company. [jump]

Seasoned professionals will perform along with youth dance companies such as those from Apple Valley and Eagan high schools, as well as Minneapolis's Young Dance and Burnsville's Youth Dance Ensemble. Local dance companies and choreographers will also participate, including Eclectic Edge Ensemble, Kinetic Evolutions, Ray Terrill Dance Group, and former Minnesotan Doris Ressl, who is currently the dance program coordinator at California State University from Los Angeles.

The free performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings. People are encouraged to dig out their picnic blankets, chairs, and food and make an evening of it because there's nothing like dinner and a show, especially when the performance takes place outdoors.

Performances begin each night at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Garden at Lake Harriet.
