Comedian Cathy Ladman takes the stage at New Hope Cinema Grill
"Marriage is challenging. Marriage to me is like a 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzle," comedian Cathy Ladman says in her comedy routine. "All sky."
Ladman is a seasoned comic. Not only has she won the American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup Comic, she also had her own HBO One Night Stand special and was the only female comic to appear on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show for his last two anniversary productions. She was even recently cast in Mad Men. Her most recent gig takes her to New Hope, Minnesota, for a show at the Cinema Grill.
According to her website, her comedy is best described as a "self-probing, anxiety-venting vehicle, which draws laughter from exposing personal neurosis." Her ability to point out the ridiculous problems people deal with everyday but somehow overlook is uncanny. Truth in comedy is humor 101, but so few comedians do it as well as Ladman. "The problem with marriage is so basic and so obvious that we overlook it," she continues. "The problem is that it involves a man and a woman. It's a terrible match."
Ladman, a New Yorker herself, is married to a Minnesotan, so there's bound to be some humor poking fun at the quirks of being from our state.
Cathy Ladman performs this Saturday, December 18 at 8 p.m. at the Cinema Grill (2749 Winnetka Ave. N., New Hope). Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online or by calling 763.417.0017.
