Children of the Revolution

This is clever stuff from Australia, starring a better-than-ever Judy Davis and based on a wacky premise: What if, on the last night of his life, Josef Stalin slept with a woman, and she was an Australian communist, and this union brought a child? Surely there are some Aussie historical/political in-jokes here, but Davis's clomp-stomping performance carries the concept, aided by a cast up to her pace (including Shine's Geoffrey Rush, and Sam Neill as a spy whose allegiance is always questionable). The only problem is that things turn somber when they mean to be dark and foreboding, undercutting the satiric bite. Director Peter Duncan will introduce the screening. Bell Auditorium, Tuesday at 9:15 p.m.
