Car Craft Magazine's 'Summer Nationals' event at Minnesota State Fairground this weekend

Rather than putting sweaters and long underwear into storage, for some folks the winter-into-summer ritual involves switching out their cars. Meaning, getting rid of the winter beater in favor of a cherry ride. And for many, seeing these cars on the streets is a true sign of summer.

This weekend, the Minnesota State Fairgrounds will be a veritable parking lot--but not in an unpleasant way. The Car Craft Magazine Summer Nationals will be taking over the grounds. Over 5,000 cars will be on display as the works of art they are. There will be plenty of gratuitous displays of horsepower, too.

Visitors will have the chance to browse specialty car parts and accessories in the Performance Marketplace, and there will be fun for kids as well in the Family Fun Zone. But the real draw to this event are the car competitions.

Real Street Eliminator Vehicles will test the Lucas/E3Dyno. QA1 Autocross, and the Mobil 1 Launch Box. Find out the best way to give your special car a proper rub-down at the Show-N-shine Demonstration. Other events over the course of the weekend include the Miss Car Craft Summer Nationals contest, and the Car Craft Pro Building of the Year awards.

Car Craft will be host to a few new events this year as well, including the Pro Builder's Shoot Out and the Royal Purple Do-It-Yourself Garage.

Events at the Car Craft Magazine Summer Nationals begin at the State Fairgrounds on Friday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Sunday, July 24 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony. Visit the event website to purchase tickets, and see the complete schedule. Single-day passes are $8 for children ages 6 to 12, $9 for anyone 13 and over.
