After taking a short, two-year break, the Art Shanty Projects are preparing for another season in 2012. Are you looking to spend weekends (and possibly weekdays) in January in a shack on a frozen lake with other creative, political, and science-minded folks? Now is the time to apply if you want to get in on the action.
In tradition with the yearly project, all types of folks are welcome to submit proposals for shanties and events, including naturalists, dancers, musicians, writers, ice fishers, and people who simply have a fun idea. Past years have featured an art-swap shanty, where guests could bring one item to trade for another; a karaoke shanty, where folks could share a song; a shanty that broadcasted its own radio station; a postal shanty, where visitors and shanty residents could send out and receive mail; and a sustainable living shanty, which filtered its own water.
This year's Art Shanty Projects will return to Medicine Lake from January 14 to February 5. Proposals are due by December 5, and applicants will be notified of receiving a space/stipend by December 15. There are also two information meetings coming up.
