Art by John Lennon, Lili's Burlesque turns 6: A-List Extra
This week we have artwork by John Lennon, a birthday party for Lili's Burlesque, and a good, old-fashioned hangar dance. Jump and jive.
(The Varsity Theater, 1308 4th St. SE, Minneapolis, 612.604.0222, www.varsitytheater.org)
Tonight's delightfully lascivious evening of performances will mark the sixth anniversary of Lili's Burlesque Revue. In addition to dancing, stripping, singing, and comedy from the ladies you all love, there will also be a bevy of guests visiting this birthday shindig. Rocker Adam Levy (Honeydogs), Janey Winterbauer (Astronaut Wife), hip‐hop artists Omaur Bliss and Carnage, and others will be stopping by. There will also be a silent auction with items to bid on. The group hopes to raise funds to send themselves to the Burlesque Hall of Fame, a national pageant and get-together debuting in Las Vegas. 18+. $10/$12 at the door. 8 p.m.

In My Life: The Artwork of John Lennon
(Downtown Wayzata, 701 E. Lake St., Wayzata)
Were John Lennon still alive, he would have turned 70 this year. Though the man himself is long gone, his legacy, art, and music live on. At this special three-day gallery show and benefit, you can check out artwork by the famous Beatle. Sketches, doodles, drawings, caricatures, and illustrations will be on display in a vacant building in downtown Wayzata. Artwork will be available for sale, and while admission is free, there is a $2 suggested donation. Proceeds from the show will benefit Smile Network International, which provides oral surgeries to children living in third-world countries. For more info visit www.johnlennonartwork.com. 5-9 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
One Man Minneapolis
(Pantages Theatre, 710 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, 612.339.7007, www.hennepintheatredistrict.com)
This event is a little like a beauty pageant where the focus is on Mr. Congeniality. It's also a little like a game show. Over the past couple months through a series of happy hours and online voting, the men competing to be One Man Minneapolis have been narrowed down to five dudes. In order to get it down to one, these guys will jump through a variety of hoops, including pop-quizes on trivia, fashion segments, and casual interviews. The winning man will receive $2,500 for himself, and another $2,500 for the local charity of his choice. For more info and to meet the men, visit www.onemanminneapolis.com. $29; $49 VIP. 8 p.m.
Evening Hangar Dance
(Golden Wings Museum, 8797 Airport Rd., Blaine; 763.786.5004)
It's the 1940s all over again at this evening dance featuring swing sounds with Dave Andrew's Big Band. This will be the tenth anniversary for the yearly dance, filled with smooth moves, retro threads, and big sounds. The party is held under a parachute rooftop and will have a large dance floor. Guests will also be able to check out vintage aircraft from the '20s and '30s between dance sets. Refreshments will be available. $10. 8 p.m.
