This week in free stuff to do we have a beer and booze party and two really cool art shows.
Craft Collective Night
(Nomad World Pub, 501 Cedar Ave. S., Minneapolis)
Most Wednesdays at the Nomad involves Midweek Beer Geek. This Wednesday, however, features the monthly Craft Collective Night. The featured booze and brewmasters this evening will be Ballast Point, a San Diego company in town to get Minnesotans buzzed. On tap will be a variety of unusual brews, including the Thai Chili Lime Ginger Wahoo, the Pumpkin Down, the California Kolsch, and the Sculpin IPA. If beer isn't your thing, there will also be plenty of cocktails available for sampling, too, made with spirits such as Barrel Aged Three Sheets Rum, Old Grove Gin, and Opah and Horchata Vodka. There will also be snacks. Sea-worthy/nautical attire is recommended, and Chris Von Dracek and Lisa Olson from The Tangential will be on board for some sea-themed storytelling. 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Stuart Nielsen: East/West
(Bockley Gallery, 2123 W. 21st St., Minneapolis; 612-377-4669)
The Bockley Gallery is going big for its fall opening exhibition. Local talent Stuart Nielsen's 8-by-13-foot oil on canvas, East/West will be on display. Sip some wine and stare in awe of its grandness at the opening reception this week. Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mat Olig: Fracturing Space/Time
(Ditch.Gallery, 400 First Ave. N., Suite 535, Minneapolis)
Local artist Mat Olig is hosting his first solo show at Ditch. His latest paintings are both large and small in scale, as he paints smaller pieces which combine to create a larger image. For his subject matter, the artist takes on both outer space and local St. Paul landmarks such as Mickey's Diner and the Landmark Center. Thursday 6 to 9 p.m.
