More About

French composer and multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen's sweeping, evocative music is often cinematic in scale. Richly endowed with enchanting melodies, it's easy to hear an array of influences: classical, French chanson, folk, avant-garde, electronica, and various rock permutations (punk, Euro, Nordic). Perhaps best known for his memorable soundtrack for the 2001 film Amélie, Tiersen's latest is the enigmatic (Infinity), whose stark beauty reflects the landscape of Iceland, where it was mostly recorded. The initially brooding "A Midsummer Evening" blossoms into a joyous reverie with the jewel-like sound of toy instruments, an anthemic piano passage, and a rock lope. Opening will be L.A.'s NO, whose moody sound is belied by shimmery synths, while Bradley Carter's dark baritone intones angst-filled lyrics, earning comparisons to the National and Joy Division.
