This Saturday, Soo Visual Arts Center will be hosting an opening reception for two gallery shows. "Located" features work by Nate Burbeck and Aaron Dysart, and examines place, nature, and suburban terrains. Burbeck does this though panoramic paintings capturing the ubiquitous but often-overlooked spaces: an unfinished backyard, a field with powerlines and a water tower. Dysart's sculptures use artificial elements to recreate nature. Meanwhile, "Tenantless Pause" features work by Theresa Anderson and Jennifer Nevitt exploring obsessive analysis. Anderson does this with chaotic sculptures that blend pieces of wood with film, steel, and other elements. Nevitt's watercolors are reminiscent of a Rorschach test or misty memory. There will be an opening reception for both shows from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 7. (Pictured: Work by Nate Burbeck)
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 7. Continues through July 19, 2014
